Dec. 15 CSU PARTY CONGRESS IN MUNICH, WEST GERMANY: The Party Congress of the Christian Socialist Union took place in Munich, West Germany on September 28th and 29th, 1979. The meeting took a special national and international interest because of the fact, that the chairman of this party, Franz Josef Strauss, after a dramatic confrontation within the CDU/CSU sister parties, was nominated as common candidate for chancellorship for the coming elections in autumn 1980. At the Munich Party Congress Franz Josef Strauss was re-elected as chairman of the CSU with an overwhelming majority (by 857 of 866 legal votes).
