Jan. 09 CSU-Party-Congress in Munich, West Germany: The Party Congress of the Christian Socialist Union took place in Munich on September 28th and 29th, 1979. The meeting took a special national and International interest because of the fact that the Chairman of this party, Franz Josef Strauss, after a dramatic confrontation within the CDU/CSU sister parties, became nominated as common candidate for chancellorship for the coming elections in autumn 1980. At the Munich Party Congress Franz Josef Strauss was re-elected as chairman of the CSU with an overwhelming majority (by 857 of 886 legal votes).
