Franz Stangel on trial for war crimes, Dusseldorf

May 05, 1970 - Concentration Camp Commander Franz Stangel accused of 400, 000 murders. The former commander of the concentration camp Treblinka in Poland is committed for trial in Dusseldorf, this week on Wednesday: Franz Stangel, 62 years old, is charge with directing the deaths of at least 400, 000 Jews from Poland, Germany and other European countries between 1942 and 1943. This programme was part of the Action Reinharf and the trial will have to find out to what degree Stangel was responsible for it Stangel was extradited by the government of Brazil, where he had been working in Sao Paulo since 1951, to the Federal Republic in 1967.
