Frederick Lee Coutts, new Salvation Army Chief
Oct. 10, 1963 - New Salvation Army Chief elected: After a week long secret session by officers from forty nine countries, the 5, 000, 000 strong Salvation Army has chosen a new leader to succeed General Wilfred Kitching who is retiring in November. He is 64-year-old, Scots-born Commissioner Frederick Lee Coutts who is at present Territorial Commander for Australia East. He joined the Army in 1919 after serving in the Royal Flying Corps.
