Funeral of President John F Kennedy, Washington

Nov. 25, 1963 - Washington D.C. U.S. - The shocking death of President John F. Kennedy stood at the forefront of a period of political and social instability in the country and the world. His wife Jacqueline took an active role in planning the details of the state funeral and led the nation in mourning as the President lay in repose at the White House and then lay in state in the Capitol. The funeral service was held for the President at St. Matthew's Cathedral. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetery and Jackie was the first to light the eternal flame at the grave site, which had been created at her request. The quiet dignity in the face of tragedy won her admiration around the world. PICTURED: JFK's funeral
