1953 - Annual Marbles championship at Tinsley Green.. The annual good Friday marbles championships took place this morning at the village of Tinsley Green, on the Surrey-Sussex border. The contest goes back to Armada days when two village swains competed for the hand of a maiden in a game of marbles..
