1955 - Traditional Good Friday marbles championships at Tinsley Green: The traditional Good Friday Marbles Championships were held yesterday on a circle of turf in front of the Greyhound Inn, at Tinsley Green, Sussex, yesterday. The match, which is over 350 years old, is reputed to have started in the Elizabeth days at the time of the Spanish Armada threat, when two young men competed for the hand of a village beauty.
