May 05, 1966 - The World Champion Barrow Boy'. 57 - year old East End barker, Sid Strong, took a ton of China to the world barrow - boy championships in The Hague Holland. And sold the lot in an hour. His performance from an ordinary street stall won him the first-ever world championship from 56 rivals. And the sponsors gave him a champagne dinner, a gold cup and a cheque for 250 - which he immediately gave to the Dutch Cancer Fund. Mrs. Strong, who has stalls in Petticoat Lane and Gravesend, Kent, was nominated for the championship by the 1000-strong Stpney Street Traders Association. (A logical choice - for he is the reigning European champion). Photo Shows Mr Sidney Strong tosses an 18-piece tea set into the air as he demonstrates his winning act
