Garden party at Buckingham Palace, London

Jun. 06, 1949 -newsreel of the 1890s (three future kings were there) is found in an old attic: This picture was taken from one of 300 rolls of film found last week after they had lain for 51 years in an old attic of The Hague's Courant newspaper office. It shows a garden party of the 1890s at Buckingham Palace. And it was filmed by the world's first newsreel cameraman. He, it is thought, was an American for an American rented an attic in the newspaper office and used it as a cinema. The cinema failed, the illegible rent. They include the only known film of Pope Leo XIII, the inauguration of President McKinley in America, the Coronation of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands, royal processions in England, and a wedding at Westminster Abbey. They are now to be re-photographed for modern projectors. Photo shows extreme right, the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, extreme left his son, later King George V. In front of the birdcage are their wives, later Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary, and seated near them is the future King Edward VIII, now Duke of Windsor
