Nov. 11, 1961 - Self-Service Petrol Pump: For the first time in London at the new Total service station near Southwark Bridge, a special self-sevice pump provides help-yourself petroil mixture for mopeds and scooters. Users insert a two-shilling piece, turn a handle, thereby pumping the mixed fuel into a container on the dispenser. Three pints are obtained for 2s. Photo shows One of the first customers to use the new pump today, John Ebbrell, of Muswell Hill, inserts his money, while model Jenny Howard, of Kingston, puts the pump's nozzele in the tank. The pump is made by Ljunmans of Sweden
