Jun. 06, 1953 - Egypt is proclaimed a Republic.: Egpyt was Thursday night proclaimed a republic by the military Revolutionary Council, with General Neguib as President and Prime Minister. The 17 month old King Fuad was deposed and the monarchy abolished. Photo shows General Neguib waves to the crowds when he drove through the streets of Cairo after the proclamation
