General Sir Cecil Sugden, NATO Northern Command, in Oslo

Oct. 10, 1957 - Demonstration against General Speidel in Norway. British C-in-C is stoned in error: General Sir Cecil Sugden, British C-in-C of NATO's Northern Command, was stoned at Oslo airport last Wednesday. Demonstrators mistook him for General Hans Speidel, the German C-in-C of NATO's land forces, Central Region. Demonstrators carried banners in protest against General Speidel's visit to Oslo. Meanwhile his plane was directed to another airport, about 40 miles south of Oslo, and he was smuggled into Oslo.
