George Bernard Shaw, 90th birthday
Mar. 27 G.B.S. - Literature's Grand old man Celebrates his 90th Birthday: Getting an interview with George Bernard Shaw is about as difficult as stealing the Crown Jewels. But we managed it. The great Irish man of letters, always an individualist, always stubborn and outspoken to the point of rudeness, is still amazingly alert, although he celebrates his 90th birthday this week ( on July 26th ). He lives in a tiny Hertforshire village of Ayot St. Lawrence, and still surprises his visitors with his ready wit, his upright walk. He still does his own typing every morning. Photo shows Not unlike Mr. Churchill, George Bernard Shaw has a large collection of hats and caps which he keeps changing. Here he's changed his hat again. and is wearing a x cap reminiscent of the pioneer days of motoring complete with ear flaps. He is standing at the doorway of his Retreat Situated about 100 yards from the House, this is where he does most of his work
