Mar. 7, 1946 - Hollywood, CA, USA - The 18th Academy Awards, held at the Grauman's Chinese Theater, with hosts Jimmy Stewart and Bob Hope, was the first such ceremony after World War II. As a result, the ceremony featured more glamour than had been present during the war. Plaster statuettes that had been given out during the war years were replaced with bronze statuettes. Singer-actor FRANK SINATRA won an Oscar for his contribution to the cause for his part in The House I Live In. And PEGGY ANN GARNER won the Special Award for outstanding child actress of 1945.
