Georges Marchais, French communist party leader

Jan. 22, 1980 - General Secretary of the French Communist Party Georges Marchais gave his party's point of view on the situation in Afghanistan, justifying the Soviet intervention again. The Communist leader also commented on the American President Carter's decision to boycott the Moscow's Olympic Games. In response to a question on the 1981 presidential elections in France, Marchais reaffirmed his wish that the FCP would come into power, clarifying that the FCP will choose its candidate when the right moment comes. Marchais is pictured during his interview on the TV programme Cards on the Table
