Feb. 08, 1973 - Georges Simenon, the father of police commissioner Maigret and one of the best known authors in the world, just announced his retirement. The famous Belgian crime writer, who will celebrate his 70th birthday soon, has published more than 200 books and Maigret was a part of his life for almost 45 years.
