Georgios Mavros in Greek elections
Georgios Mavros, former Greek Foreign Minister in 1974 government of national unity during the Cyprus war, leader of the United Democratic Center party, which is considered moderate and liberal. With 25.5 percent of the vote and 58 seats in parliament in the last elections, it became the main opposition party. This centrist party had only displaced the conservatives once in the post-war period, briefly in 1964-65. In the coming elections it has announced an intent to close the gap with the governing party
