Dec. 12, 1952 - German couple charged with having Uranium block.: Helmut Coltzer, a Berlin sales agent, aged 40, and his girl friend, Gisela Nitzke, 24, were charged yesterday before an American Court at Lichtefelde, Berlin, with having in their possession and offering for sale, a block of pure uranium, contrary to Law 13 of the Allied Control Commission, which carries a Life sentence on any German found in possession of uranium. The block of uranium measures five square centimeters and weighs two kilos, 600 grams and sis said to be worth 100, 000 dollars. According to the accused, they got it from a foreigner and it came form the uranium mine at Aue, near Leipzig, in the Russian Zone. German police however, believe it cam from the war time atom research station of Haigerloch. The couple have been trying to sell 1t for year adn finally tried to dispose of it to the Max Plancke Institute of Research in Berlin, for 100, 000 marks. The uranium had been kept in the couple's fist in Berlin for over a year, and it is believed they are now radio-active, as the box was not sufficiently thick.
