Dec. 12, 1952 - New Berlin warning to motorist Don't take car into Russian zone. New notices have appeared in Berlin at the entries into the Russian zone. warning west Berlin motorists that their cars will probably be confiscated by the Russian Vopo (people police). It was a common thing for west Berliners to drive over to east Berlin in their cars but there have been so many complaints that the vopo have taken their cars and sent them back on foot - thus the warnings. photo shows A west Berlin policeman points to the new warning as a motorist was about to drive in past the Brandenburg tor, seen is background with the red flag flying above it, and which is the main road into the Russian zone. The warning reads. Vopo confiscates K.B. (Berlin license letters ) vehicles of all kinds
