Jul. 01, 1953 - 20, 000 East Germans cross the Iron Curtain ? On Monday, 29 June 1953, some 20, 000 East Germans crossed the border central point Glienicker Bruecke, near Potsdam, Berlin. Members of the East German People?s Police requested no passes or special permits, but nobody was authorized to have only some food with him. The Berlin Traffic Society managed it to obtain enough buses to take the East Germans over the border. Keystone Munchen. 1 July 1953
