Oct. 10, 1957 - Currency-exchange in the East-Zone and East-Berlin: The Sovietzonal Government decided completely unexpectedly on Oct 13, 1957 to exchange the currency in the Soviet occupied part of Germany and in East-Berlin for newly printed money. Each person was allowed to exchange in specially designated exchange-offices 300 East-German Marks for the same amount. Traffic between West-Berlin and East-Berlin and from Western Germany was completely blocked in order to insure a complete success against the western profeteers and Speculators'.
