Jan. 10 Forest-work at the zonal border under the protection of the police : Some weeks ago 4 farmers from Weissenbrunn near Coburg were arrested by the people's police when they were driving wood. Two were able to have a narrow escape. The third was arrested in Eisenach for weeks and there is not the least trace of the fourth. From then the farmers are asking the German Bundesgrenzschutz (Federal Border Police) for the protection when they have to work in the close vicinity of the borderline. The pictures show the transportation of woodcat the borderline. The West German border -soldiers took also an active part in the work and placed their vehicles at the disposal of the farmers. When they noticed the work from the East-zonal side a larger number of Vopos (Members of the people's police) appeared in order to arrest some other people. When then the West-German border-police appeared then the Vopos went back. The inhabitants of the Eastern zone who were working in the cleared 10-meter zone kndl greeted the Federal border-police. The policemen at once collected food-stuffs and gave the parcels to the people from the East-zone. Our reporter succeeded to talk friendly with two Vopos at a hidden place. The also talked against the border- regulation and other measures. They also informed themselves about the future of some comrades who fled to Western Germany. It would be dangerous for the Vopos if these pictures would come in the their superior. Th the underwood the freely gave their opinion was not very flattering for the rulers of the Soviet-zone
