Jan. 10 Animal Cemetery at the Island of Norderney: The Roman Emperor Caligula (37-41 after Christ) once made a horse to a consul - This probably was the blunder of a person suffering from delusions of grandeur; but the burial of beloved domestic animals - which is already a custom in America - nowadays is no rare thing also in the Federal Republic of West-Germany. The inhabitants of the island of Norderney even have good reasons to do so. Having no institute for utilization of the dead beasts, they installed a cemetery for the dead animals. The last resting place (foto) is lying between the center of the town and the so-called WeiBe Dune (dune). Mostly people are bringing dead cats and dogs to earth, but also horses and canary birds are buried there. Even a whale, who perished at the shore was buried
