Feb. 26 Air pollution - a serious problem in West Germany: West Germany's leading politicians will be responsible for the health and lives of thousands of German citizens, if they don't try everything possible to realize legal competence for the Federal Government concerning the problems of air pollution. This was the essence of an appeal made by the director of the Frankfurt Zoo and Federal representatives for nature conservation Professor Bernhard Grzimek. Professor Grzimek is complaining about the relatively small amount of 4-5 million DM, which the Federal Republic is spending annually on air and water cleaning and nature conservation, whereas the Netherlands or Sweden for instance are spending 65 resp. 96 million DM on the same matter. But not Mr. Grzimek alone is complaining scientists from all over the world are warning against further pollution of the air and water. Polluted air as this picture in the Ruhr Territory shows is a bad sign for one of the world's most urgent problems
