It was on January 9th of the year 1626 when Minuit with many followers on board of the Sea-Gull put to sea from Texel. And 115 days later, on May 4th 1626, the ship finally reached Manhattan Island. One of the first acts of general director Minuit was the purchase of Manhattan Island. So far the historical facts! The Wesel citizens now resolved to make an energetic advance. They want to give their despaired fighting a good foundation by a memorandum to be sent within Germany and abroad and which is to make a stir.
