Mar. 22 The so-called Karlspreis der Stadt Aachen - (Prize Charlemagne of the town of Aachen) was handed over to the hitherto French ambassador in the Federal Republic of Germany, Francois Saydoux de Clausonne, by the Aachen Lord Mayor Hermann Heusch. He was awarded with this prize for having deserved well of the European integration. The prize consists of a document and a medal, showing on one side the oldest seal of the town of Aachen, from the 12th century, while the reverse shows an inscription referring to the respective prize-holder. Besides, the prize-winner receives an amount of DM 5000.
