Dec. 12, 1961 - First German Moon Globe.: After nearly ten years of work, engraver Alfred Schlegel (Schlegel) of selb in Upper Franconia/West-German has made a globe of the moon. Precise Photographies of the side looking towards the earth were the basic for the being of his works. Later, Schlegel received pictures of the back side of the moon from American scientists. The moon globe has a diameter of 34 centimeter and consists of 12 segments. 400 craters are seen on the back side of the moon alone, 16of them were named after famous scientist of East and West. The moon globe stands now in the Planetarium of Nuremberg
