Jan. 01, 1962 - Finish on the Zugspitze The new funicular leading from the Lake Eibsee (height 1000 m) to the summit of the mountain Zugspitze (with 2965 m highest mountain in the German Alps) will probably be inaugurated in summer 1962. The building on the mountain top is now under roof which is - according to German tradition - a reason for celebrating. Sign of these celebrations is a small tree which is put on top of the building, in this case of the entrance of the top station of the funicular on the Zugspitze
