May 06, 1968 - Pictured here are the famed gorilla twins Alice and Ellen on occasion of their first birthday. No one could have hoped for better. The successful rearing of the twins can largely be attributed to their foster mothers, Mrs. Klose and Mrs. Podolczak. Not only can the Frankfurt Zoo say that they have the first gorilla twins born in a zoo, they can also say they are the first to successfully rear them! Mrs. Podolczak is shown with the twins as they enjoy their birthday cake
