May 28, 1968 - GERMANY'S THALIDOMIDE TRIAL OPENS. The Germany's thalidomide trial began yesterday at Aledorf, near Aschen, and is expected to last two years. Seven senior executives of the Gruenenthal pharmaceutical firm, where the drug thalidomide was discovered and manufactured, face charges alleging that they caused bodily harm by means of the drug, brought about death by negligence and contravened the drug regulations.
