1969 - Singer Francoise Hardy(right) gives a start to a most unfamiliar yacht competition in the Sahara. From Laghouat to El Golea, 24 participants, from Germany, France, Belgium, England, Sweden, and Algeria, will attempt to traverse the waste at over 70 kilometers an hour. The German pilot'(left) also had to shove his three-wheeled yacht shortly before the start of this adventurous competition. The wind had deserted them though, so the competition was put off until Easter Sunday
