Germany - Lithuania - Poland

1971 - 2-Year-Old boy at the Bundeswehr: The assistant chemist Gerd Mayer (23) has made an armistice for one month with the Bundeswehr (the German Federal Defence Forces). When ordered to a tank-artillery-batallion he took his 22 months old son Volker with him as they did not get enough money and his wife had also to work because of this reason as he said. Commander lieutenant Frank Schild (right) understood these reasons, provided a child's bed and playpen for the little boy and promised to help to solve Gerd Mayer's financial problems. Meanwhile one has arranged that Mrs. Mayer discontinues working to take care of her son; however, it has not been decided yet who will be in charge of the financial compensation of the salary of the assistant chemist Mayer and the present income of the soldier Mayer. Photo shows Gerd Mayer, son Volker, a soldier and lieutenant Schild
