May 05, 1974 - Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt has resigned: The chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Willy Brandt, has declared his immediate resignation on May 6, 1974. His stop is linked to the espionage affair Guillauma. Gunter Guillaume, personal adviser of Brandt, had been apprehanded as a GDR spy on April 24. The opposition reproached Horst Ehmke (Horst Ehmke -picture) of that time head of the chancellorship and now Minister of Post, with the engagement of Gullaume. Ehmke shall have not considered warnings and doubts on the part of the security board at the engagement of Guillaume in the chancellorship at the beginning of 1970.
