Giant pair of clogs from Gill and Scholey Ltd, Carlisle
Jan. 01, 1970 - THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING - BUT NOT FOR DAINTY FEET. Pretty 18-year old Jenny Dirom tries for size one of a pair of giant clogs at the Carlisle factory where she works. Verdict: at two feet three inches long, and weighing two stone, it wasn't quite snug. The clogs were made at the leather goods factory of Gill and Scholey Ltd, Kingstown, Carlisle, for an entertainer whose main gimmick is boots which walk across the stage. It was certainly the strangest order we have had. We make clog uppers in all sizes - but never as big as this, said the managing director, Mr. Kenneth Scholey. Jenny, of Lattimer Cottage, Dalston, Carlisle, needed a helping hand from the department manager, Mr. Ike Smith (right)
