Aug. 08, 1955 - Giant Suction Tank For Drying Up Airport Runways, Demonstration Weybridge. A demonstration was held at the Vickers-Armstrong Airfield at Weybridge today of the Aeroduck invented by Mr Frank Elvy - a larger version of the Duck which is used for drying up cricket pitches. The machine is claimed to be capable of sucking up 400 gallons of water a minute - and being able to dry up an airport runway in very short time. It has been said that a modern jet aircraft hitting a pool of water on landing could have disastrous effect. Photo shows the rear of the Aeroduck showing the squeegees which are attached to the suction apparatus during the demonstration at Weybridge today
