Glafkos Klerides
Jul 23, 1974 - London, England, UK - (File Photo) GLAFKOS KLERIDES is a Greek-Cypriot politician and former President of the Republic of Cyprus. He was the 1st President of the House of Representatives, serving from 1960-1976. In 1974 President Makarios was ousted by a coup d'etat which fell apart when the Turkish army invaded five days later. Klerides served as acting president until Makarios return. He was a candidate for the presidency of Cyprus six times and elected to two five-year terms, in 1993 and in 1998
