Gloucester Javelin Mark 7 aircraft in flight

1956 - Star of the Farnborough Air display the Gloucester Javelin Mark 7. Expected to be one of the star demonstration aircraft at the Farnborough Air Display which opens today is the Gloucester Javelin 7 - which is fitted with the latest Armstrong Siddeley Jet engines and flying tail. The Javelin's already powerful rate of climb is increased in this version by a considerable margin. The machine, a heavy radar-packed fighter, is capable of continuous operation in all weather, day and night, and can fly and fight at extreme interception altitudes. Basically armed with four Aden guns, the machine was designed as a guided missile platform, and is one of the Javelins in Squadron service with the Royal Air Force - and the new versions are now taking their place.
