Goddess of Victory statue returns to Brandenburg Gate

Sep. 09, 1958 - Berlin gets her Goddess of Victory back but without her iron cross and Prussian eagle standard.: Berlin's Goddess of Victory was restored to her chariot on top of the Brandenburg Gate between East and West Berlin recently but she was empty-handed, without the symbols of Prussian militarism. The statue was one of Berlin's most famous monuments and was destroyed by Russian artillery in World War II. Recently the two sections decided to collaborate the statue was completely recast with standard which showed the Iron Cross and Prussian Eagle, and handed over to East Berliners. The Communists removed the standard before she was returned to her former seat. Photo shows the statue is prepared for hoisting to the roof of the Brandenburg Gate minus her standard
