Gordon Robinson practises trombone in elephant house

It's either the Dog House or the elephant house for this Trombone player: It was either the dog house or the elephant house for jazz-band leader Gordon Robinson after he was turned out of his flat because of complaints about the noise he made practising on his trombone. When he had insisted on practising, his landlord, Mr. Christie of Scarsdale-road Manchester, said he must leave. Gordon had insisted on rehearsing for the European Amateur Jazz band Festival, which will take place in Zurich next week. He and the other six members hope to pull off the hat trick and win the championships for the third year running. So for 27-year-old Gordon, who comes from Bradbury, Cheshire, there was only one way out - the only place where he could practise without complaints would have to be the elephant house at Belle Vue Zoo, Manchester where he works as a Business Development Executive. But the Zoo's 31-year-old elephant Elly May, had other ideas.
