Grenada Premier hints at state of emergency

Feb. 02, 1974 - Grenada Premier hints at state of emergency Mr. Eric Gairy, Prime Minister of the Caribbean island of Grenada, has hinted that he would declare a state of emergency as soon as the island gains independence from Britain on Thursday. He told a gathering of foreign reporters that the Opposition's fear that he would decree a state of emergency to deal with them before the end of this week was not without some measure of justification.
