Mar. 31 British Bid To Climb Everest Abandoned; The British attempt to climb Mount Everest has been abandoned owing to treacherous weather which stopped the climbers only 2, 000 feet from the summit of the 29, 028 ft mountain. Scottish climbers Dougal Haston and Hamish Macinnes were to have made the final climb to the summit from Cmap Six, 27, 000 feet up.
