Hans Habe, Hungarian-American author and editor

Feb. 02, 1976 - 65th Birthday of Hans Habe: On February 12th, 1976 the Hungarian born American author Hans Habe will be 65 years old. Habe, born in Budapest was brought up in Vienna, where he studied the law and German philology. Then he turned to journalism and became a well-known publisher. In 1936 he started his career as an author with the novel Three across the border'. The experiences he had in World War II (first he fought with the French, later with the Americans against the Germans) were described in his book A Thousand Shall Fall, which became known worldwide. After being the chief editor of the Munich paper Neue Zeitung, Hans Habe stayed in Hollywood for a while. After his return, he became chief editor of the Munchener Illustrierte'. Presently he writes for the paper Welt am Sonntag, articles which are much discussed.
