Hans Leip, German writer and illustrator, 85th birthday

Sep. 22, 1978 - Birthday of Hans Leip at Sept. 22th 1978: At Sept. 22th 1978 the poet, book illustrator and writer Hans Leip can celebrate his 85 birthday. Born in Hamburg, West-Germany he was the son of a sailor, and became a teacher. He was a soldier in the first world-war, studied later art, lived at Munich, Copenhagen, Paris, London and New York, wrote essays three years and exhibited at this time his own graphics, at least he brought his pictures into the well known satirical paper Simplicissimus'. Then Hans Leip concentrated on writing. The main-subjects in his novels and stories are the love of the sea and the spirit of adventure. Some titles: Goedekes servant, The shellhorn, Mib Lind and the sailor'. Generally known is the song Lili Marleen of which Hans Leip is the author. Today he lives in Switzerland
