Minister President Franz Josef Strauss called upon the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs, Hans Maier (in photo), to excuse for his article in the Munchner Merkur, or to retire. There, Maier has defended this newspaper against sharp attacks in the party organ Bayernkurier, which is published by the CSU-chairman Franz Josef Strauss. At the same time, Minister President Strauss is said to have threatened his own retirement, if the CSU-parliamentary party should support Maier.
