Mar. 31 Quarrel in the CSU after a Quarrel about the Freedom of the Press: The CSU and the government were plunged into a crisis, because of the grave arguments between the Bayernkurier and the Munchner Merkur'. Minister President Franz Josef Strauss called upon the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs, Hans Maier (in photo), to excuse for his article in the Munchner Merkur, or to retire. There, Maier has defended this newspaper against sharp attacks in the party organ Bayernkurier, which is published by the CSU-chairman Franz Josef Strauss. At the same time, Minister President Strauss is said to have threatened his own retirement, if the CSU-parliamentary party should support Maier. Indeed a talk between Strauss and Maier is intended for July 22nd. But, after the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs has declined to excuse, it's possible that his political fate could be sealed with that
