1968 - Have Horse Will Travel: What do you get when you cross a horse with a bicycle? A horsical, of course! Inventor Philip Barnes has come up with an incredible patrol-beating machine that runs on grass. His idea was simple but brilliant, like the best inventions. Realising that a man is much more efficient on a bicycle than on his feet, he decided to solve the problem of hoe to get a horse to ride a bicycle, thus creating a powerful machine. After experimenting the pedals, and even roller skates, his Mark II version has endless belt for p-lly th- family pony to tread. After adding a couple of wheels, a driving seat and a cabin for the horse, he had a machine which may look more like a combine harvester ---- the transport of tomorrow, but which is very efficient indeed. Open to radicul- at first, people have come to realise the seriousness of Philips brainchild in the light of hte energy crisis. Now Philip, who lives in Manea, Camba, is planning more refin-- version for the future. And finally, What does the horse think of it all? The Royal Society fir the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was probably a lot happier than when pulling a cart.Photo shows Philip Barnes and Pally pass through the village on a test run.
