Feb. 29 Take Hope wins the Japanese Derby.: Take Hope. with Jockey Isao Shimada in the saddle, won the 40th running of the Japan Derby by one and 3/4 lengths at the Fuchu racetrack, Tokyo Sunday, upsetting the favourite Hai Seiko to win the 25, 000 prize money, from a field of 27 top 3 year old runners over the 2, 400 meter distance, in 2 minutes 27.8 seconds bettering the old records mark of 2, 28, 6 by Long Ace in 1972.
