Oct. 10, 1964 - The Grandfather Jockey Falls At Newbury: At Newbury yesterday, nearly everyone was hoping that Tim Durant would succeed. he is 66, a grandfather, and although he has ridden in point-to points, this was his first race on a racetra under rules; the Rosy Brook Amateur Riders chase over three miles. But the predictable successfully negotiated. All eight horses were still standing and Mr. Durant had 25-1 Aerial III tucked in behind the two pacemakers. Then disaster. Aerial made a hash of the water jump, and pitched Mr. Durant now plant to ride Aerial at Liverpool next week. If we do all ell, he said, We will go for the Grand National.
