Nov. 11, 1970 - Sir Gordon Richards Sells Up For, 000: Hundreds of people, including leading turf figures from all parts of Britain, went to tiny Hampshire village of Whitsbury yesterday for a dale that marked the end of a racing area. For many people the occasion was net so much a sale as a chance to take leave of Sir Gordon Richards. Sir Gordon, in racing for half a century, is giving up his trainer's licence and leaving the stables at Whitsbury, which for seven years he has leased from William Hill the bookmaker. After the crowds had gone Sir Gordon estimated that the sale of the equipment had realized about, 000. Sir Gordon who is 66-year-old, has ridden 4, 870 winners, still a British record. Photo Shows Sir Gordon Richards standing in front of the three-stall starting gate which fetched 25 at yesterday's sale
