Harold Macmillan opens Preston motorway, Lancashire

Dec. 12, 1958 - The Prime Minister Opens Britain's New Motorway: Mr. MacMillan yesterday opened the 8 1/2 mile Preston Motorway between Bamber Bridge and Broughton in Lancashire. It is the first of Britain's high-speed roads and symbol of the opening of a new era of motor travel in the United Kingdom.
