Harold Macmillan opens Preston motorway, Lancashire
Dec. 12, 1958 - The Prime Minister Open's Britain New Motorway: Mr. Macmillan yesterday opened the 8 1/2- mile Preston motorway bottom Bamber Bridge and Broughton in Lancashire. It is the first of Britain's high-speed roads and symbol of opening of a new era of motor travel in the United Kingdom.
